Four Eagle wrestlers place 3rd in Maple River tourney

MAPLETON – The New Ulm wrestling team had four of its wrestlers earn third-place finishes in an eight-team tournament hosted by Maple River on Saturday.

Placing third in their weight class for the Eagles were Ryan Wacker at 106 pounds, Luke Cihak at 132, Sam Hoppe at 152 and Andy Bregel at 285.

Earning fourth-place finishes for New Ulm were Jagger Hoffmann (138), Austin Brandes (145) and Lorenzo Hernandez (195).

Madelia/Truman had five wrestlers place at the tournament – Adam Cooling (first at 160), Bryon Forstner (third at 126), Jerimiah Colon (fourth at 120), Jon Whitney (fourth at 145) and Jake Denn (fourth at 182).

The Eagles had a pair of B-squad champions in Hunter Ranweiler and Tanner Stark.

New Ulm and M/T will compete in a triangular in Madelia on Tuesday, with Maple River rounding out the field.
