ST. PAUL – The Martin Luther College women’s basketball team dropped to 1-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 61-51 loss at Northwestern Friday night.
Defense was the story for Northwestern early in the game, building an 11-point lead at the half by holding the Knights to 37.5 percent shooting and 22 points in the first 20 minutes.
The Knights battled back in the second half, turning up the defensive pressure to force 12 turnovers after the break to help cut the deficit as low as six on several occasions, but they just weren’t able to make enough shots, shooting 29.3 percent from the field in the second half on the way to the 10-point loss.
