PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Sleepy Eye girls race past Mustangs

Sleepy Eye 59, BLHS 41

HECTOR – The Sleepy Eye girls basketball team defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk Conference game Tuesday evening.

Sleepy Eye had a trio of players in double figures, led by Alicia Ibarra with 15 points. McKayla Ahlrich added 14 points and Josie Schieffert pitched in 10 points.

BLHS was led by Michelle Melsha with 16 points, while Hannah VanderVoort scored 10 points.

Sleepy Eye improves to 5-9 overall and will host Wabasso on Thursday. BLHS falls to 0-10 and will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Friday.

GFW 51 (OT)

WINTHROP – The Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s girls basketball team prevailed in an overtime affair against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk Conference clash on Tuesday evening.

St. Mary’s had a pair of players in double figures as Jenna Hose scored 15 and Jessica Schmitz scored 14 points.

GFW got a monster night from Halley Busse, who scored 31 points. Eve Bleick also chipped in eight points for the Thunderbirds in the loss.

St. Mary’s improves to 8-6 with the win and will travel to BLHS for a game on Friday. GFW falls to 3-10 overall and will travel to Minnesota Valley Lutheran for a game on Friday.
