Council approves new seat on Park and Rec
NEW ULM – The New Ulm City Council approved Tuesday adding a permanent Council seat to the New Ulm Park and Recreation Commission.
The Commission previously had only eight members, with a non-voting Council representative. The approved changes will have an ordinance drawn up to make the Council member position a permanent voting position.
The move is aimed at preventing stalemate votes that could occur with a full membership present due to the even number of members. The move is also aimed at ensuring the Council has a more direct say in the Commission, which handles a significant sized portion of money in its operations.
The new position will be permanently set aside to the Council member appointed each year. Councilor Ken RockVam will fill the new position.
