PREP WRESTLING: Bobcats maul competition at Luverne Invitational
LUVERNE – The Wabasso/Red Rock Central wrestling team had a highly successful campaign at the Luverne Invitational on Saturday, handily winning each of its matches to finish 4-0 on the day.
The Bobcats opened with a 61-15 victory against Sioux Falls Lincoln (S.D.), followed by a 66-12 victory against Sheldon/South O’Brien (Iowa), a 56-6 win against Luverne and a 56-16 win against Brandon Valley (S.D.).
Alex Schroepfer and Blake Altermatt starred for the Bobcats in the tournament, each earning a perfect 4-0 record with four pins apiece.
Wrestling at heavyweight, Schroepfer earned each of his pins less than a minute into his matches, including a pin in 16 seconds and one in 21 seconds. Altermatt – who wrestled between 160 and 170 pounds – earned three of his pins in the first period of his matches.
Mitchell Fulton (106), Spencer Jenniges (113, 120), Tanner Rohlik (145, 152) and Jared Welch (182, 195) also finished with 4-0 records for the Bobcats, though all four received one of their victories via forfeit. Welch finished with three pins in the tournament.
Cole Anderson (138) finished 3-0 for W/RRC and Jordan Schroepfer (182, 195), Mitch Schroepfer (152, 160) and Justin Frank (113, 120) were 2-0.
The Bobcats will host Marshall/Lakeview today.
