Is America at a Generational Crossroad?
To the editor:
On January 22 it was the 40th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, and so it seems appropriate to take some time to reflect on our country’s decision regarding abortion. After 40 years, while making great human and medical advancements we have destroyed more than 60 million fetuses In the USA. I believe our President spoke for many Americans when he said “I am not a scientist, so I don’t know when life begins.” But with advancements such as ultrasound, etc. we can see that a fetus is a human being who Is just in an early stage of life. No human mother has birthed anything like a monkey. That may sound funny, but you are considered odd if you don’t think the reverse – that our distant past mother was a monkey.
If we wish to embrace an Intelligent Design approach to our existence, then we are invited to seek out God’s idea on this subject. Of course, one source for many could be the Bible. Let’s pick a couple of scriptural verses on this subject that might reflect God’s perspective. !n Jeremiah 1:5 it says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I dedicated you”. In Luke 1:41-42 it says “When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out In a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” From Jeremiah we can learn that God claims to know us before we are born. From Luke’s account of Mary visiting Elizabeth we learn that personhood is recognizable before birth and children at any stage are a blessing from God’s perspective. Do we feel wiser than the God who has claims to be our creator?
On Jan. 23, we begin the second generation of legalized abortion. In the Bible, the number 40 represents a period of completion. It also represents the age of one generation or the completion of one generation (an example would be the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years, or King David’s reign for 40 years). Now let’s apply this to our present time and our present generation. What could be America’s completion in regards to abortion? What are we handing on to our next generation in regards to abortion? Could it be that the first generation (1973-2013) accepted abortion as a valid option to unwanted pregnancies, and the next generation is being asked to pay for it in the Health Care bill? In the first generation it affected only those who wished to participate. In the second generation, starting this year, all will be forced to participate whether you like it or not, even if it violates your conscience.
If we take President Obama at his word that he doesn’t know if a fetus is a human being or not, it would seem only logical that as a nation or an individual, we should lean towards the side of caution. What would you do if you were driving aiong an unfamiliar, curvy road? For safety reasons you would tend towards caution, since a wrong decision could bear unforeseen consequences. If we take the above scripture at face value, that God and others (In this case John the Baptist) recognized another human being while still in a mother’s womb, maybe we should too. Now if these verses contain the truth that life begins at conception, what could it say about this next generation of legalized abortion? Could it mean that everyone who pays for abortion through Obamacare is participating in taking the life of an unseen human being? Would this not lead all to be ineligible for heaven since we would indirectly become participants in the murder of another human being?
Each person in this generation is going to have to ask his/her own conscience this question. The question is “Am I 100 percent sure that I am not killing an innocent unborn child with my Obamacare? We all know actions reap consequences. If the abortionists are right/ that it is only a piece of tissue/ then the consequences will be motherhood at its best. But if there is a God and His word to us is the Holy Bible, and all of His children in USA are forced to pay for something that ss an abomination to Him, we can expect some kind of swift Justice to America. WHY? Because our nation would then be pitted against God’s innocent unborn loved children. I guess we may know who is right soon enough.
