Opportunities and challenges
What an exciting time ahead for ISD 88! The district has passed a levy referendum, employee contracts are settled through 2015 with the exception of one employee unit, a restructured school board is in place, the interim principal at Washington School has decided to extend his interim status and the district is about to select a new superintendent. All the above represent opportunities and challenges at the same time.
The next six months will be a time period for the district to prepare for the future and find a way for the public to accept and understand the transition process. Throughout the days ahead, the district needs to maintain its focus on students first. The weeks and months ahead allow the school district to direct its energy and resources for the 2013-14 school year and beyond.
The superintendent search process provides an opportunity for the district to position its leadership for the long range future. The search consultants have proposed a process which embraces involvement – involvement of students, staff and the community at-large. What an opportunity!
The superintendent search team will be gathering information from staff and students on Jan. 29. The public is also invited to provide input about personal skills and characteristics they would like to see in the new superintendent at an open meeting on Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the DAC board room. Please consider sharing your thoughts and comments with the search team at this community input opportunity.
Additional community input opportunities on the selection of the new superintendent are scheduled when the final three superintendent candidate interviews are held on March 25, 26, and 27. Each of those days, a community interview event will be held at the DAC auditorium beginning at 4:00 p.m. Each final candidate will respond to questions from those in attendance. Each day will have a different candidate in attendance.
The search team is emphasizing providing opportunities for community involvement. The March interview sessions are open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend.
