WINTHROP – The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (GFW) School Board approved the purchase of two used buses for $77,700 plus tax, licenses and delivery Monday from Hoglund Bus Company.

District 2365 bought a 2006, 84-passenger, snub-nosed, front-engine bus with 60,000 miles and a 2011, 77-passenger bus with 50,000 miles. Trade-ins include a 2004 snub-nosed, rear-engine bus; and 1997 and 1993 Bluebird buses.

The board approved buying an eight-passenger van for $29,150 plus tax and license from Ralph Larson Chevrolet, Hector.

Superintendent Jeff Bertrang said three school days have been missed plus three late starts, due to weather this year. He recommended planning when to schedule the extra days to cover the missed days and time.

Bertrang reported that the RS Fiber To The Home (FTTH) initiative continues to move forward. A Joint Powers Board is seeking project support from businesses, schools, health care providers and residents in 10 communities in counties that would be served including part of the rural 426 telephone exchange around Fairfax.
