Knights close Florida trip with loss
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Martin Luther College baseball team finished its eight-game Florida trip with a 6-0 loss to Penn State Behrend Wednesday morning.
The Knights’ defense was unable to help out the pitching staff, committing four errors that led to four unearned runs crossing the plate.
James Hemmelman started the game on the mound for MLC and was one of five pitchers featured by the Knights in the game. Travis Kretsch pitched three innings in relief, allowing only two hits and one unearned run while striking out two, but picked up the loss. Christian Kuether, Michael Schlottman and Wyatt Weimer also threw in relief for MLC.
MLC was outhit 10-3 in the game, with Joe Janke, Aaron Stokke and Joe Schmudlach accounting for the Knights’ three hits.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 4-4 overall on the season, but still finished with the most wins on its Florida trip in program history.
The Knights’ next scheduled game is 2: 30 p.m. on March 16 at William Penn.
