Kenneth Lee Ahlness
Kenneth Lee Ahlness, age 87 of Walker, formerly of Minneapolis and Hanska. Born 8/16/1925 – Died 3/6/2013. Preceded in death by parents, Nels and Stena (Lee); brothers, Claude, Christian, and Noel; and sisters, Sadie (Johnson) and Teona (Lindquist). Survived by wife of 62 years, Betty; sons, Jon (Patricia), and Stefan; grandchildren, Michael, Lisa (Ben) Kachan, and Angela; great-granddaughter, Ella Smith.
He was born in St. James; grew up in Godahl; graduated St. James H.S. 1943. He enlisted in the Navy on 1/18/1944; served on Tinian in the Northern Mariana Islands; discharged 4/5/1946. Played baseball as a pitcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system in 1948. Married Betty Neisen of New Ulm on 4/23/1950. They lived in Stillwater until 1953, moving to Mpls. Ken worked at Red Owl from 1955 to 1986 as a Market Mgr. until he retired. Moved to Walker on Leech Lake in May of 1988.
Memorial service 2 p.m. Tuesday 3/12/2013 at Washburn-McReavy Werness Brothers Chapel, 2300 W. Old Shakopee Rd., Bloomington. Visitation from 1-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to MN Braille and Talking Book Library, 388 SE 6th Ave., Faribault MN 55021-6340. Private interment MN State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.
