Knights win one at NCU Tournament
PLYMOUTH – The Martin Luther College softball team lost 8-7 to Presentation, but won 10-5 against North Central Thursday in a tournament at the Plymouth Creek Dome hosted by North Central.
Amber Krause had a big three-run double to help MLC top North Central.
After losing the first game of the day against Presentation by the score of 8-7, the Knights came back to beat North Central 10-5.
MLC trailed the Rams 5-4 heading into the seventh inning, but scored six times in the top of the seventh to take a five-run lead and the win.
The first four hitters of the seventh inning reached base to tie the game. Madeline Scott and Andrea Biedenbender each walked in a run with the bases loaded to give MLC a two-run lead before Krause had the big hit to put the game away, smashing a three-run double to clear the bases and give the Knights the 10-5 lead.
Emily Waldek picked up the win for MLC on the mound. Waldek struggled with her control throughout (11 walks), but allowed only six hits and five runs (four earned) in seven innings to keep the Knights in the game.
MacCartney Mendolla led the MLC offense with three hits, while Morgan Kumbier and Waldek each added two hits. Biedenbender reached base four times in five plate appearances with four walks.
