Howard Hartmann, age 92, of Waubun, MN, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Howard Anton Hartmann was born July 29, 1920 in New Ulm, MN, the son of Albert and Alvina (Reinhart) Hartmann. He grew up and attended country school in the New Ulm area. On April 20, 1948 Howard was united in marriage to Bernice Hindermann in New Ulm. The couple made their home on a farm near New Ulm and began a family before relocating to a farm West of Waubun, MN in 1952.
Howard had a deep passion for all the facets of farming. He actively continued to farm until 1993 when he retired. In November of 2000 Howard lost his wife Bernice after 52 years of marriage. He continued to live on the farm until 2006. During the past six years, Howard was fortunate to share residence between the homes of his two daughters.
In addition to farming, Howard enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards and dice with family and friends. He was a lifelong member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Waubun and also held membership with the NFO (National Farmers Organization)
Howard is survived by his children: son, Martin (Gayle) Hartmann, Walker, MN; daughters, Rose (Bob) Speldrich, Climax, MN, and Minnie (DuWayne) Thompson, Thief River Falls, MN; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Otto (Mary Jane) Hartmann, Gibbon, MN, Fred (Verna) Hartmann, Thief River Falls, MN; Sister, Verna Joel, New Ulm, MN.
Preceding him in death are his wife, Bernice; Son, Allen; daughter, Molly; and two Grandsons, Andy Speldrich and Joshua Hartmann.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Waubun, MN.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral Mass on Thursday.
