Sylvia Koehler

NEW ULM – Sylvia Koehler, 82, of New Ulm, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at Ridgeway on German in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 27 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Grant Bode officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mark Luukkonen of Plymouth; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Karen Koehler of Belgrade, Doug and Linda Koehler of Hanska, Dan and Trish Koehler of Ogallala, Nebraska, Dave and Dawn Koehler of Madelia; grandchildren, Ryan (Kathleen) Koehler, Brianna (Zach) Strom, Brady Koehler, Brent Koehler, Jessica Koehler, Kiersten Koehler, Jonathan (Cori) Koehler, Jason Koehler, Emily Koehler, Grant Koehler; great granddaughter, BoDelle Koehler; and sister, Lillian Rasmussen of New Ulm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; brothers, Willard and Harvey Hulke; and sisters-in-law, Erma Hulke and Ardella Hulke.

Sylvia Edna Hulke was born June 27, 1930 in Courtland Township, Nicollet County to Emil and Edna (Bode) Hulke. She attended Nicollet High School and graduated with the class of 1948. After high school, Sylvia completed LPN training at the Union Hospital School for Practical Nurses in New Ulm. On March 25, 1955, Sylvia was united in marriage to Richard Koehler at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland. She was a very dedicated nurse and worked in New Ulm for 31 years. Sylvia loved entertaining and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing, quilting, and music. Sylvia was a very compassionate woman, a talented painter, and a loving mother and grandmother. She was very active in her church as a former member of Salem Lutheran Church and LWML in Madelia and a current member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
