Man killed after crashing Harley into squad car in Cottonwood County
COTTONWOOD COUNTY – A 33-year-old Slayton man died at the scene of a car-motorcycle, head-on accident Saturday night involving pursuit by law enforcement.
Chad R. Danneman was ejected from his 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle and died at the scene after he collided with a State Trooper vehicle near the intersection of CR 10 and CR 2.
The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported a person armed with a knife, fled deputies from Cottonwood and Murray counties who terminated pursuit in two separate incidents. A short time later, State Trooper Jeffrey J. Stearns, 42, of Marshall was traveling east on CR 10 in Cottonwood County when he saw Danneman stopped ahead of him. The Trooper stopped his Ford Taurus squad car and activated his emergency lights. Danneman accelerated to a very high speed toward the trooper, traveling into the trooper’s lane, striking the squad car head-on while it was stopped with emergency lights on. Both vehicles were demolished. Stearns had non-life threatening injuries.
According to the Associated Press, Danneman has prior convictions for making terrorist threats, felony drug possession, drunken driving and mistreatment of animals.
