Road projects include Lookout Drive in N. Mankato

MANKATO – The Minnesota Department of Transportation will complete its four-lane expansion of the 2-mile stretch of Highway 14 from Lookout Drive in North Mankato to County Road 6, according to MnDOT’s Wednesday release of its 2013 construction projects.

The section of the highway was closed last year, and traffic was diverted along another route to expand one side of the highway. This year, the westbound side of Highway 14 will be expanded into four-lanes. A bridge over County Road 41 at its intersection with Highway 14 and a connected interchange will also be built this year.

The same lane closures, travel delays and possible rerouting for that section of Highway 14 should be expected.

The project is a portion of the larger goal of expanding four-lanes from North Mankato to Nicollet. The project is intended to improve safety by re-aligning Hwy 14’s path out of North Mankato and changing the roads near troubled intersections.

The 2013 cost of the project will be $7.847 million. Construction will occur from May until October.

The total project is estimated to cost $16.3 million.

Included in 2013 MnDOT’s construction plan are projects for Highway 60 and Highway 169.
