Funding roads and bridges pays off
To the editor:
As our Minnesota winter turns into spring, we can be sure that construction season is around the corner. With every construction project on our roads and bridges come much needed safety improvements and upgrades, as well as hundreds of solid construction jobs. We all need good roads to allow us the freedom to travel for work and business.
Funding these vital projects – like Highway 14 and 60 here in southern Minnesota – can often get overlooked or passed by when more controversial topics are being discussed in the legislature, but they are too important for us to ignore. Construction projects result in real improvements to our quality of life, good paying jobs for our employees and revenue to our state. In 2011 alone, transportation-related jobs put over $2.8 billion in income in the pockets of working Minnesotans and generated almost $195 million in income tax revenue. These are real benefits to our citizens and our state.
Minnesotans are ready to continue to invest and support improvements on our roads. Be sure to remind your elected officials know that you support infrastructure and that supporting transportation must be a priority this session.
