Next Level Services working on NUMC Cancer Center garden

NEW ULM – Next Level Services is enjoying strong business in the midst of its work on the garden for the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at New Ulm Medical Center.

The business, which changed its name from Ground Innovations two years ago, has been in New Ulm for 15 years. It specializes in sprinkler systems and decorative concrete work as well as other landscaping work like seeding and sodding.

Scott Dreckman, vice president of Next Level, said the company is lucky to have been picked to do the work on the cancer center garden.

The garden can be seen from the newly renovated oncology treatment area. It offers patients undergoing chemotherapy a tranquil view of the garden while receiving their treatments.

The project turned out to be very challenging work due to the layout, Dreckman said. A major portion of the garden is completed, but the final touches will be made when the NUMC Clinic’s new expansion is finished.

For its daily business, Next Level has experienced a slight increase in sprinkler installations due to the drought in Minnesota.

Dreckman attributed a general growth in business due to its new name and increased public awareness.

The cancer center garden will be named for Barb Fenske, a patient who died in 2011. Fenske led the fundraising campaign for the new cancer center, and her family donated $25,000 to the project. An additional $9,000 in memorials given in her name also helped fund the garden.
