New Ulm rolls all over St. James

ST. JAMES – The New Ulm Eagles softball team rolled to a 14-1 South Central Conference victory over St. James on Thursday.
Ellie Schneider had a monster afternoon at the plate, going 3-3 with a triple, three runs batted in, and a pair of runs scored.
Sydney Schuck got the win, pitching just two innings with four strikeouts.
New Ulm improves to 2-0 and will participate in the Mankato East tournament today, playing games at 5 and 7 p.m.

SLEEPY EYE – A suicide squeeze attempt proved to be the difference for St. Mary’s in the first game as the Knights scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to cap a Tomahawk conference win over Minnesota Valley Lutheran Thursday.
Maddy Helget got the win as she pitched seven innings allowing six hits and striking out five batters along the way. Emily Schumacker led the Knights at the plate with two hits and scoring the winning run in the seventh.
Laura Pelzel got in the second game for the Knights as she allowed four runs and 11 hits. Carlie Maasz got both losses in the circle for the Chargers on the day. Molly Schwartz had a strong game at the plate for St. Mary’s going 2-for-3 with a RBI. Mikyla Weilage led MVL in the second game with two doubles.
