Pitching leads Knights to sweep over Storm

WATERTOWN – The Martin Luther College baseball team received two outstanding pitching performances in a doubleheader sweep at Crown by the scores of 7-0 and 4-2.

Jake Ziel struck out a career-best 14 batters in his first complete game shutout of the season as the Knights won Game 1 7-0.

Ziel allowed just two hits and one walk in the game, retiring the first eight batters he faced, and never allowing a runner beyond first base. He improved his record to 3-2 on the season with the win.

Joe Janke took over on the mound and produced similar results in a 4-2 Game 2 win.

Janke went all nine innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out 13 to improve his record to 3-2 this season.

MLC improved to 10-8 overall and 6-4 in UMAC play with the wins and are at Northland today.
