Cathedral, Tigers split doubleheader

SPRINGFIELD – Springfield’s Shawn Anderson pitched a complete game one hit shutout in the first game but then Cathedral’s bats woke up just in time as the Greyhounds scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to salvage a split in a Tomahawk conference baseball doubleheader on Thursday night.

Gabe Knowles pitched well in the first game for Cathedral, going seven innings and allowing two runs on only two hits, but took the loss. Jacob Menage drove in both runs for Springfield on two sac flies during the game.

In the second game, Cathedral’s Collin Helget went 4-for-4 on the day while Russell Hoffman went five innings and allowing only three hits while recording six strikeouts.

Wabasso 11, Cathedral

MILROY – In a nonconference game, Wabasso defeated Cathedral Friday night.

Blake Altermatt earned the win for the Rabbits. He pitched five innings and struck out seven, giving up four hits.

Altermatt also had a double and two RBIs and Dirk Pistulka was 2-for-4 with a single, a double and three RBIs.

Gabe Knowles was 2-for-4 for Cathedral.

Wabasso (3-2) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday and Cathedral hosts Comfrey/Cedar Mountain on Monday.

Hutchinson 8, New Ulm 4

HUTCHINSON – Hutchinson defeated New Ulm in a non-conference game Friday.

New Ulm’s Cole Dulas pitched four innings, giving up five hits, five runs and he struck out one. Dulas went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Chase Meyer went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Judd Davis went 1-for-4.

New Ulm (4-0 in South Central Conference, 7-2 overall) will travel to Fairmont Monday.

Springfield 11,

Sleepy Eye 7

SPRINGFIELD – Tim Krueger led Springfield to a Tomahawk Conference win Friday against Sleepy Eye, batting 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Springfield’s Zach Mickelson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Cooper Scheffler was 1-for-2 with a triple. Jake Menage was the winning pitcher for Springfield.

Sleepy Eye’s Sam Hirschboeck took the loss and went 2-for-3. Ethan Silsies went 3-for-5.

Springfield (6-2 Overall) will host Waseca Monday.

Sleepy Eye will host Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Monday.
