Farmers Market site, apartment plans on council agenda
NEW ULM – The New Ulm City Council will meet today at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
The Council will consider a request from Jim Bartels, general manager of KNUJ, to use the open-air, non-leased City parking lot at the intersection of North German and 2nd North streets behind the former Ben Franklin building for the Farmers Market on Monday evenings. The market needs a new location because its former site was sold.
The Council will also consider a Simple Lot Division from Steve Grossmann, on behalf of the land owners of GTI Enterprise, Inc., for the proposed 22-unit apartment building at 2020 S. Broadway. The small portion of divided property will be given to the site of the apartment building to meet space requirements.
The Council will hold the public hearing for the 2013 Surface Reconstruction Project. The project will cover 12 blocks, including: 8th North Street from Broadway Street to German Street, 4th North Street from Broadway Street to German Street, 10th North Street from Broadway Street to Franklin Street, Franklin Street from 17th South Street to the curve near 19th South Street and Valley Street from 8th North Street to 11th North Street.
The project will cost $415,880. A total of $102,600 in special assessments will be sought.
The Council will consider putting the Park and Recreation Commission’s Swim Pool Walls Vapor Membrane Project up for bids. The project will repair the swimming pool’s walls, which have deteriorated with moisture seeping through and damaging the mortar and concrete. The project is estimated to cost $250,000 and $215,000 has been budgeted for it.
The Council will consider a resolution to further implement its performance measurement system, which is a survey tracking residents’ satisfaction with city departments. The survey is intended to provide suggestions on improving city operations. The goal is to collect several years of results to track and compare how departments and city operations have performed over time.
