New Ulm shuts out JCC in softball

NEW ULM – The New Ulm softball team stayed hot with a 2-0 nonconference victory over Jackson County Central on Monday.
Sydney Schuck earned the win for the Eagles. She was able to work her way out of several jams as she struck out seven. She walked two and hit a batter.
New Ulm had a chance to score in the bottom of the first inning, but Abby Kamm was thrown out at third with one out to keep the game scoreless.
After Kali Denn led off the bottom of the second for the Eagles with a single, she was stranded at third base to end that threat.
The Eagles (10-1) scored twice in the bottom of the third inning after Rachel Strandmark reached with two outs. Ellie Schneider tripled to score Strandmark, giving New Ulm a 1-0 lead. Brittany Hoffmann followed with a deep fly ball to right-center that scored Schneider, and that was all of the run support Schuck needed in the low-scoring affair.
Abby Kamm and Schneider each had two hits for the Eagles.
“Coming off of prom weekend, it’s always tough to get the girls back into the swing of things,” New Ulm coach Kristi Andersen-Loose said. “I’m optimistic because we’re going through a little bit of a lull, which is okay because I was worried that we may have been peaking too soon. But it’ll be nice to get us back on track again.”
New Ulm continues SCC play today when the Eagles host Blue Earth Area at 5:30 p.m.
