WABASSO – Wabasso swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in two Tomahawk Conference softball games today.

Kimberly Frank was the winning pitcher for the Rabbits in both games. Frank gave up one hit in each game and struck out seven batters in each game.

Frank also led Wabasso offensively in both games. She was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the first game and 3-for-4 with one RBI in the second game.

Ashley Tintes recorded BLHS’ lone hit in the first game, and Dani Winkelmann had its only hit in game two.

Wabasso (5-1, 4-1) will play at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday, while BLHS (1-9) plays at GFW today.

Cleveland 12, Madelia/Truman 2 (6 inn.)

MADELIA – Madelia-Truman dropped a Valley Conference softball game to Cleveland on Thursday.

Beth Kotewa was the losing pitcher. She gave up 12 runs on 10 hits, one walk, and six strikeouts.

Kotewa was also the leading hitter for the Blackhawks. She went 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Madelia-Truman (4-7, 2-5) play on Saturday against Clevelend in the Glenville-Emmons tournament.

WINTHROP – New Ulm Cathedral and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop split a Tomahawk Conference softball doubleheader on Thursday.

Morgan Wenninger hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to knock off the Greyhounds. Wenninger was 2-for-4 for the game.

Erin McDurmont was the winning pitcher for the Thunderbirds. She gave up three runs on six hits and had 10 strikeouts.

Karlee Pfaff led Cathedral offensively in the first game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Greyhounds bounced back in the second game and defeated GFW 20-7.

Anna Mohr got the win on the mound in the second game. Mohr pitched four innings and allowed four hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.

Anne Schwarz went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead Cathedral in the second game.

Angie Munoz was 3-for-3 for the Thunderbirds.

Cathedral (10-3) will play next at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Tuesday, while GFW (5-2) plays at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart today.

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s swept Sleepy Eye in a Tomahawk Conference doubleheader on Thursday.

Laura Pelzel earned the win in Game 1 and Larissa Helget scored two runs and had three RBI for the Knights.

Sammy Villanueva was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Indians.

Pelzel earned the win in the second game. Helget was 4-for-7 for the Knights and Jamie Fischer was 2-for-5 for the Indians.

Sleepy Eye hosts Springfield today.
