NEW ULM – Roger Poss, 73, of New Ulm, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at the Wedum Hospice Residence in Brooklyn Park.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with Father Anthony Hesse celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. To leave an online condolence for his family or to sign the guestbook go to: www.mvfh.org.
Roger is survived by his wife, Ann Poss of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Corey Smith of Comfrey; son, Darrin Poss and his special friend, Lynn Rowley of New Ulm; grandchildren, Vanessa Wieseler, Desiree Garibay, Brandi Smith; great-grandchildren, Ace and Gemma Garibay; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Curtis Ebert of New Ulm, Darrell Hurley of Sunberg, Paul and Sandy Gieseke, Linda Gieseke all of Courtland; nieces; nephews; and his dog, Copper. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and one brother.
Roger Valentine Poss was born on May 11, 1939 in Mulligan Township, Brown County to Valentine and Mary (Mathiowetz) Poss. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964. On Dec. 28, 1968 he was united in marriage to Ann Gieseke at the St. James Catholic Church in St. James. Roger was employed for 40 years at Kraft Foods in New Ulm. He enjoyed baseball, softball, bowling, golfing, reading, fishing, and cruising the Caribbean. Roger was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm, the American Legion Post 132, and was on the American Legion Baseball Committee for ten years.
