New Ulm blanks Waseca in SCC battle

WASECA – New Ulm’s Cole Dulas allowed only one hit on the mound as the Eagles beat Waseca in a South Central Conference baseball game on Monday.

Jackson Yackley had two hits, including a triple, to go along with his two RBI on the day.

Chase Meyer also contributed with a team leading three RBI and Judd Davis ended the game with a triple of his own as the Eagles improved to 6-1 in the SCC.

New Ulm (10-3) is at St. James today in a conference showdown.

Wabasso 3, GFW 2

WABASSO – Caleb Salfer scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk as Wabasso edged Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Monday in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game.

Blake Altermatt was the winning pitcher, going 3 2/3 innings, giving up two hits, two walks and five strike-outs.

Tanner Buettner was the losing pitcher. He went 6 2/3 innings, gave up three runs, five hits. He walked seven batters and struck out three.

Seth Guetter of Wabasso was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Jaden Katzenmeyer of GFW went 4-for-5 with an RBI.

Wabasso (8-3, 5-2) plays Comfrey-Cedar Mountain in a doubleheader today in Milroy.

Springfield 3, St. Mary’s 1

St. Mary’s 12, Springfield 3

SLEEPY EYE – Springfield and Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s split a Tomahawk Conference doubleheader on Monday.

Isaac Kirschstein earned the win in the first game for the Tigers. He struck out six and allowed three hits.

Sean Mathiowetz took the loss. He pitched seven innings, struck out 12 and allowed seven hits and one earned run.

Jake Menage had a double and two RBIs for the Tigers and Zach Mickelson was 2-for-4.

Brandon Helget had an RBI and Jon Kopacek was 1-for-1 for the Knights.

Kopacek earned the win in the second game, allowing four hits and striking out eight.

Mathiowetz was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Helget was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Kopacek was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two doubles.

Cole Milbrath took the loss for the Tigers. Shawn Anderson was 2-for-3.

Springfield (11-3, 6-1) is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop today and St. Mary’s (12-1, 5-1) hosts Martin County West on Thursday.
