Valaria ‘Toots’ Brey
NEW ULM – Valaria “Toots” Brey, 92, of New Ulm, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Toots is survived by her sons, Gary (Linda) Brey of New Ulm, Lynn (Pam) Brey of Brainerd; grandchildren, Renee (Bob) Eckstrand, Darren (Melissa) Brey, Darcy Brey, Daisy Brey; a great-granddaughter, Emily Eckstrand; sister, LaVerna (Leo) Gulden of New Ulm; and by a sister-in-law, Florence Helget of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by a brother, Linus Helget.
Valaria Rose Helget was born Nov. 7, 1920 in Sleepy Eye to Joseph and Laura (Haala) Helget. She attended Sleepy Eye Schools. Valaria and her husband Harold and their family farmed near Klossner for 40 years. She had been a resident of Oak Hills Living Center for the past four years.
Toots enjoyed dancing, old time music, bird watching, flowers and the outdoors. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.
