GFW clinches Tomahawk title
SLEEPY EYE – Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop clinched the Tomahawk Conference softball title with a 4-0 win over Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Saturday.
Erin McDurmont earned the win, striking out 13 and allowing two hits in seven innings.
Laura Pelzel took the loss. He gave up four hits and struck out three in 2 1/3 innings.
Ashley Timm was 1-for-3 and McDurmont was 1-for-4 for the Thunderbirds.
Emily Schumacher and Karissa Fleck each had a hit for the Knights.
GFW opens Section 2AA playoff action at LeSueur-Henderson on Tuesday and St. Mary’s hosts the winner of Cleveland and Comfrey/Cedar Mountain at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
