Highway 14 funding
To the editor:
A top priority of the U.S. Highway 14 Partnership – funding for the “Corridors of Commerce” program – was included in the transportation budget passed by the Legislature. $300 million in Trunk Highway bonds were authorized to fund this new program, which aims to complete the missing links and build capacity on Minnesota’s highway corridors. The Corridors of Commerce program provides a real opportunity to make progress on Highway 14. We need ctizen support in emphasizing to the complete legislature that more funding is needed as our Trunk corridors continue to deteriorate. I want to thank Representative Frank Hornstein for authoring the “Corridors of Commerce” bill and his leadership in getting this into the final bill. I expressly want to thank Representatives Clark Johnson, Kathy Brynaert, Patti Fritz, Paul Torkelson, and John Petersburg who supported the bill in the House along with all Highway 14 corridor Senators – Vicki Jensen, Kathy Sheran, Julie Rosen, Gary Dahms, and Dave Senjem – who voted yes in the Senate.
The Corridors of Commerce program provides a real opportunity to make progress on Highway 14. The partnership is committed to continue to work for a four lane highway from New Ulm to Rochester.
