Mildred “Millie” Gieseke

NEW ULM – Mildred “Millie” Gieseke, 90, of New Ulm, died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 30, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Pastor Melvin Schwark officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Millie is survived by her daughter LeAnn Bloemke (Robert Wallish) of Laguna Hills, California; sons, Gary (Donna) Gieseke of New Ulm, Danny (Monica) Gieseke of New Ulm; grandchildren, Scott (Deanna) Gieseke of New Ulm, Chris (Amy) Gieseke of New Ulm; Lynette (Chris) Rigsby of Cambridge; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl Heymann of Rochester; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Penkert of New Ulm, Alma Voges of New Ulm, Leorda Marxhausen of Bloomington, Myrtle Fischer of Buffalo Lake, Delores Gieseke of Menomen; Evelyn Gieseke of Henderson, Marie (Allen) Leinberger of Beverly Hills, Florida; and brothers-in-law, William (Betty) Gieseke of New Ulm, Vern (Myrt) Gieseke of New Ulm, and Jim Gieseke of New Ulm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reinhold, in 2000; parents; sisters, Helen Liebl, Hertha Moe; brother, Wilbert Penkert; and grandchild, Michael Gieseke.

Mildred Louise Penkert was born August 12, 1922 in New Ulm to George and Mamie (Klossner) Penkert. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1940. On May 27, 1942, Millie was united in marriage to Reinhold Gieseke in New Ulm. She worked at various places around New Ulm, but was primarily a farm wife. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, sewing, and bowling. Millie also enjoyed her years at Orchard Hills and loved spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township.
