SLEEPY EYE – Mary Mathiowetz, 98, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2013 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Father Thomas Mroczka celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. To leave an online condolence for her family or to sign the guestbook go to: www.mvfh.org.
Mary is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Delores and Donald Helget of New Ulm, Carol Davies of Garland, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Caroline Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Mathiowetz on Feb. 20, 2006; son, Denis Mathiowetz; granddaughter, Janice Guldan; great-grandsons, Matthew Guldan, Matthew Fromm; sister, Ann Bishop; brothers, Joseph, John, Mike, Louie, Frank, and Albert Billmeier.
Mary Theresa Billmeier was born on Aug. 31, 1914 in Templeton, Iowa to Joseph and Anna (Senft) Billmeier. On Feb. 20, 1935 she was united in marriage to Thomas Mathiowetz at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan. They farmed in Home Township, Brown County until 1963 when they moved to Sleepy Eye. Mary enjoyed crocheting and gardening.
