ST. GEORGE – Herbert “Herb” Biebl, 90, of St. George died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George with Father Anthony Hesse celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the church on Monday by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 8:00 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday. There will be a Knights of Columbus and St. George Catholic Aid rosary at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Herb is survived by his wife, Eleanor Biebl of St. George; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy Youngman of Plymouth, Sharon and Bill Murray of Isanti, Mary and Neil Hendrickson of St. Paul, Annie Biebl of Minneapolis, Rosanne and Todd Sanden of Eyota; sons and daughter-in-law, Don and Mary Biebl of St. Paul, Steve Biebl of St. George, Robert Biebl of St. Paul; fifteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Marian Palmer of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Evelyn Biebl of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Biebl; sisters, Tess Keckeisen, Beatrice Jordan; and brothers, Walter, Richard and Lavern Biebl.
Herbert Leroy Biebl was born on February 28, 1923 on a farm one mile west of St. George to Henry and Mary (Walser) Biebl. After graduating from high school he attended welding school in Ohio. Herb then served in the U.S. Navy from September 10, 1943 to May 4, 1946 as a Yeoman Second Class on the U.S.S. Tippecanoe and was the personal assistant to the captain in the Aleutian Islands and Japan. On May 22, 1951 he was united in marriage to Eleanor Ziegler at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Fairfax. They raised eight children on their 350 acre farm near St. George. Herb was a member of St. George Catholic Church, a member of the St. George Catholic Aid, Sacristan of the St. George Parish, a 71 year member of the Knights of Columbus – St. Patrick’s Council # 1076, a director for 27 years on the Rural Electric Association, American Legion Drill Team since 1946, and was clerk of West Newton Township for 30 years. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
