Deacon Jim Guldan
NEW ULM – Deacon Jim Guldan, 57, of New Ulm peacefully passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Tuesday, June 11, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 – 8 PM Monday and 9-11 AM Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. The St. Patrick’s Council of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth Catholic United will pray a rosary at 6:30 PM and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 PM, both on Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.

Deacon Jim is survived by his wife, Brenda Guldan of New Ulm; mother, Delores Guldan of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Erin Guldan and Adolph Henry of New Ulm, Meghan and Justin Frato of Merrill, Iowa, Kaitlyn and Frank Roberts of Naples, Florida; grandchildren, Hope, Felicity, Joseph, Miriam, Kendrick, Adrian and Kiana; sister, Judy (Terry) Anderson of Ames, Iowa; brothers, Michael (Ann) Guldan of New Ulm, Steve (Ana Martha) Guldan of Alcalde, New Mexico, Denny Guldan of New Ulm and fiance Dani Bohm, Tom (Bonnie) Guldan of Sleepy Eye, Jon (Julie) Guldan of St. Joseph, Missouri, Emiliano (Gale) Chagil of St. Paul; a brother-in-law, Shelley Schwab of Sleepy Eye. Deacon Jim is also survived by mother-in-law, Mary Bohnen of New Ulm; brothers-in-law, Tim Bohnen and Sharon Jones of Waseca, Kevin (ReNaye) Bohnen of Buffalo Lake, Patrick (Missy) Bohnen of Sleepy Eye, Maureen Bohnen of New Ulm, Sheila (John) Ortlip of Hutchison, and Bridget Fischer of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Guldan; sister, Jean Schwab; father-in-law, Glenn Bohnen; sister-in-law, Janice Guldan; and brothers-in-law, Erik Phillips and Keith Roberts.
James Frank Guldan was born August 18, 1955 in Sleepy Eye to Dennis and Delores (Suess) Guldan. He was a 1973 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Sleepy Eye and a graduate of Mankato Vo-Tech. Jim was united in marriage to Brenda Bohnen on August 22, 1975 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage they resided in New Ulm where Jim worked for J&R Schugel Trucking in the accounting department his entire career. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. In 2007 Deacon Jim began his discernment and courses to become a permanent deacon in the Catholic Church. He was ordinated on April 21, 2012. During his year as a deacon, he touched many lives as a servant of the Church. He also had the privilege of witnessing his daughter Kaitlyn’s wedding and teaching the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Knights of Columbus, Catholic United Financial, and served on many church committees. Learning about his Catholic faith and sharing it with others was the joy of Deacon Jim’s life.
