William ‘Bill’ Vogel

SPRINGFIELD – William ‘Bill’ Vogel, age 78 of Springfield, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System Springfield.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield with burial in the church cemetery. Father Dennis Labat and Father Mark Mallak will be con-celebrants.

Visitation is Monday, June 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, June 11 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.

Parish Prayer Service is 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

William ‘Bill’ John Vogel was November 19, 1934 in Stately Township, Brown County to William and Minnie (Matzke) Vogel. Bill served with the U.S. Army from 1957-59. He was united in marriage to Eileen Groebner on September 28, 1963 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn. Bill worked for Mathiowetz Construction for 5 years before farming his entire life. He served on the Stately Township Board and was a former member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Bill was currently a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed playing concertina, bicycling, his daily walks (MILES), hunting, fishing, coffee with his friends, gardening, and raising wild flowers. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Bill Vogel died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 after a short battle with leukemia at the age of 78 years.

He is survived by wife Eileen of Sanborn; daughter Lisa and husband Tim Scholten of Springfield; grandchildren- Cody Schoen of Jeffers, Curtis Scholten of Gillette, WY, and Connor Scholten of Springfield; sisters- Christine (Alvin) Wille, and Eleanor Teicher; brothers- Sylvester (Arlene) Vogel, Wenzel Vogel, and Ernest (Nancy) Vogel; brother-in-law Elmer Meine; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son Curt on April 28, 1990; his parents William and Minnie; maternal parents Edward and Veronica Groebner; sisters- Rose Meine and Swede Halvorson; brothers-in-law- Lowell Halvorson, Sr. and Mike Teicher; and nephew Lowell Halvorson, Jr.
