U18 team goes 1-2 at tournament

ROSEMOUNT – The New Ulm U18 softball team went 1-2 Sunday at the Rosemount College Showcase in Rosemount.

It lost 10-3 to Minnesota Ice in its first game. Karlee Pfaff was 2-for-2, Ellie Schneider was 2-for-3, and Kristi Larson was 1-for-1 with a double.

Hannah Backer was the losing pitcher. New Ulm won its second game against the Irish Elite 7-3. Kali Denn went 2-for-2 in the game. Schneider and Larson each were 2-for-3. Carlie Maasz was the winning pitcher, striking out seven and allowing just four hits. New Ulm lost its final game 11-1 to the Omaha Echoes.

Shaina Widmer was 2-for-2, and Maas was the losing pitcher. The U18 softball team will play a doubleheader Tuesday at home against Jackson, with the first game beginning at 6 p.m.
