Brewers edge Leavenworth
NEW ULM – Drew Pfaff drove in Aaron Pfaff with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the New Ulm Brewers a 4-3 win over Leavenworth Wednesday night in amateur baseball action at Johnson Park.
Aaron Pfaff began the ninth inning with a single. Zach Hoffmann moved Pfaff over to second on a sacrifice bunt.
New Ulm scored the first run of the game in the third inning. Jason Schaul hit a single, advanced to second on an error. He scored on a sacrifice ground-out by Chris Peters.
The Brewers added two runs in the fifth inning by Aaron Pfaff and Zach Hoffmann. Pfaff singled to start the inning. He advanced on an error by the Leavenworth shortstop. Brady Ranweiler grounded out, but Chris Peters’ base hit drove in two runs for New Ulm.
Leavenworth refused to quit as it scored two runs in the sixth inning cut the lead to one. Mickelson hit a lead-off single. John Cook moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt. Brian Braulick hit a single, driving in Mickelson and Danny Christenson for the Orioles. Christenson reached first base when the throw from home plate to first base was unsuccessful on a strike-out.
Leavenworth tied the game in the eighth inning when John Cook walked. Andy Cook drove John in with a double that resulted in a tie game.
Wade French was the winning pitcher for the Brewers, and Gaby Hirsch was the losing pitcher for Leavenworth.
