Fourth of July celebrations planned
Fourth of July celebrations are planned in Cambria, Sleepy Eye, New Ulm, Morton and Hanska.
Fireworks begin at dusk on Wednesday, July 3, in Cambria. A street dance follows.
On Thursday, July 4, a community potluck picnic begins at noon in the park shelter. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share. A parade begins at 1 p.m. on the west end of town, followed by a patriotic program with music, readings, community sing-along and fancy cake auction.
Sleepy Eye events begin with a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Wednesday with live music by Chopper in the Railway Bar parking lot.
Thursday events begin at 8 a.m. bicycle ride around the lake, starting and ending in Allison Park, hosted by Brent Mielke of Dungeon’s Gym. A burger feed with beverages and old-time music begins takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Allison Park. Fireworks begin at dusk.
In New Ulm, live music with the Wendinger Band, Concord Singers, Schell’s Hobo Band, Dain’s Dutchmen and Adam’s Jammers will perform from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Turner Hall park.
Food choices include brats, burgers, beer and pie. Admission is free. The public is invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets on which to sit.
It’s another year of July Fourth softball in Hanska. Co-ed teams are sought. Call Mikale at 507-276-3255 for more information.
Softball will be played all day Thursday, continue at 6:30 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday. Fireworks will begin at dusk Thursday. A raffle drawing starts at 6 p.m. Saturday. Food choices are hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, kraut dogs, German and American potato salad and sauerkraut. Volunteers are needed. Contact Rhonda Froehling.
Morton events begin Wednesday with a co-ed kickball game between the Morton and Danube firefighters at 7 p.m. An outdoor dance begins at 8 p.m. in the parking lot near the post office.
On Thursday, 2- and 4-mile run/walks and softball games begin at 8 a.m. Kickball starts at 9 a.m., a parade at 10 a.m., goggle darts and a flea market at 11 a.m., bean bag tournament at 1 p.m., bingo from 1-5 p.m., pork chop feed from 4-7 p.m., kids’ pedal pull at 7 p.m., raffle drawing at 8 p.m. and fireworks at dusk.
