Thomas Joseph Rubischko
LAFAYETTE – Thomas Joseph Rubischko, 57, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in Lafayette.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 1 pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with Pastor Tim Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday. Thomas Joseph Rubischko was born on November 8, 1955 in New Ulm, Brown County, Minnesota, to Theodore and Patricia (Merkel) Rubischko. He attended Gibbon High School and the University of Minnesota Morris.
On January 1, 1994, Tom married Nancy (Paulson) Niebuhr at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop, MN. Tom devoted his life to farming and farmed for more than 45 years with his father Ted, father-in-law, Vern, and friend, Tom Wilfahrt.
Tom was a wonderful and compassionate husband, dad, grandpa, and friend. Tom loved farming, hunting, traveling, cooking, playing games and spending countless hours with his family. Tom and his wife Nancy opened their home and hearts to a multitude of foreign exchange students and other visitors from around the world who consider Tom and Nancy family.
Tom had a tireless work ethic and easygoing nature, a fierce devotion to family and friends, and a mischievous grin and wink when he joked around. Tom was a gifted conversationalist and made friends wherever he was.
Tom is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Nancy; their children, Ryan Rubischko, his wife Stephanie, and their children, Claire and Nora, of Stillwater, MN; Nathan Rubischko, his wife Shannon, and their children, Veda and Soren, of St. Paul, MN; Justin Niebuhr, his wife Jenna, and their children Leah and Lora, of St. Charles, MO; Tricia Lancaster, her husband Mark, and their children, Mackenzie, Eleanor, and Coraline, of North Mankato, MN; and Jared Niebuhr of Hopkins, MN; and exchange students, Antoine, Henrique, Leo, Camila, Katharina, Helene, Flavia, Meng, Kristina, Eunsil, Courtney, Ms. Emy, Jasmyn, Katariina, Regine, Michaela, Hilke, and Elke; sisters Barbara Watson and husband Shell; Helen Herschman and husband Richard, and Jean Strauch and husband Gary; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vern and Neva Paulson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Terese Paulson, and their children, Stephen and Erik; dear friends Mauricio Bhr and Tom Wilfahrt, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Patricia Rubischko, and his nephew, Brent Herschman.
