Kibble Equipment not leaving New Ulm, but new location possible

NEW ULM – Despite rumors, Kibble Equipment is not planning to leave the New Ulm area or cut its staff. The company, which sells John Deere implements, is simply setting itself up for eventual expansion to a new, larger headquarters that would accommodate the current Sleepy Eye and New Ulm sites.

Kibble Equipment is located at 1426 S. Broadway in New Ulm, which is familiar to many as the former site of Potter Implement.

The likely source of the rumors has been the “For Sale” sign posted outside the New Ulm branch following the merger of Kibble Equipment and Mankato Implement, which was announced in May.

Mark Bruggeman, store lead with the New Ulm location, said the sign only applies to the building, not the company. He said the owner has been allowed to put the building up for sale to see if a new tenant can be attracted.

Steve Kibble, co-owner of Kibble Equipment, said the company is fine with the building being on the market. The merger increased the company’s size, and a larger facility will be needed in the future.

How the situation for the New Ulm and Sleepy Eye branches will progress will depend on whether the building sells.

If the building sells in the coming months, the New Ulm branch will temporarily move to the Sleepy Eye branch site to continue operations. The company will then find or build a joint office building anywhere in the area from Sleepy Eye to New Ulm. Both branches will then move into the building and will continuing their regular operations.

If the New Ulm building does not sell, both branches will remain in their current locations with no operations change. Instead, the branches will simply wait until they have expanded too large for their facilities before proceeding with the joint location plan.

Kibble said there is no plan to significantly change the operations or staff at the two branches.
