Sleepy Eye VFW wins twice

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Sleepy Eye went 2-0 Saturday at the Sioux Falls Tournament.

In the first game, Sleepy Eye defeated Sioux Falls West 1-0. Jon Kopacek earned the win for Sleepy Eye. He allowed two hits over seven innings.

Sleepy Eye scored its only run after Brandon Helget and Kopacek had back-to-back doubles in the first inning. Kopacek’s double scored Helget. Kopacek was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Dylan Klein was 2-for-3.

Jake Mielke earned the win in the second game. He struck out four and walked one, giving up one hit.

Matt Berkner was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Helget was 2-for-3 with a double. Kopacek added two hits, including a double, and three RBI.

Sleepy Eye (14-5) was the winner of its pool and will play Wayzata at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
