Cecilia Flatau

NEW?ULM – Cecilia Flatau, 93, of New Ulm, died Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with Father Mark Steffl celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Cecilia is survived by her daughters, Carol (Henry) Wolle of Butterfield, Mary Lou (Mark) Steffl of New Ulm, JoAnn (Tom) Schlosser of North Mankato; sons, James (Irene) Flatau, Thomas (Lynae) Flatau, Jerry (Lynne) Flatau, Robert Flatau and his special friend Lorie Schlomann, all of New Ulm; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Flatau; sisters, Crescentia (Herman) Reinarts, Agnes (Al) Rewitzer, Gertrude (Clarence) Reinhart; and a brother, Clarence (Hildegard) (Bernetta) Hauser.

Cecilia Mary Hauser was born Nov. 7, 1919, in New Ulm to John and Mary (Klinkhammer) Hauser. She attended Holy Trinity Grade School in New Ulm. Cecilia was united in marriage to Howard Flatau on April 5, 1941 in Mankato. She was a resident of New Ulm her entire life, both growing up and after her marriage as a homemaker. Cecilia enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts, playing cards, bingo, wrestling on TV and music on the radio.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, CAST and various quilting groups.

The family prefers memorials to Oak Hills Living Center, Oak Hills Assisted Living Auxiliary, NUACS or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
