Springfield Legion goes 2-1 over the weekend
MILROY – The Springfield Legion baseball team is moving on in the division playoffs after a 2-1 weekend stand in at Irish Field in Milroy.
Springfield began its stand on Friday, when it defeated St. James 4-3 in an eight-inning game.
Shawn Anderson got the complete-game victory for Springfield, managing to allow just three runs off eight hits. Anderson struck out four batters while walking two.
Tim Krueger drove in the game-winning run drove in the game-winning run for Springfield in the eighth inning. Krueger went 2-for-4, while Carter Erickson led the Tigers in run production with two in a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
Springfield suffered its only loss of the weekend on Saturday in its second game, when it fell to Blue Earth 3-2. Blue Earth scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the Tigers to the elimination bracket.
Isaac Kirschstein was the losing pitcher for Springfield, giving up three runs off nine hits while striking out five batters. Dylan Wersal went 2-for-3 with one run scored, leading Springfield at the plate.
Springfield’s final game of the weekend was an 11-5 victory against Redwood Falls on Sunday.
Erickson got the win for the Tigers, but was pulled after the fifth inning after giving up three runs to diminish their lead to 6-5.
Anderson stepped in and got the save in 2 2/3 innings pitched, shutting down Redwood Falls while giving up three hits.
Springfield continues its bout in the division playoffs on Saturday and Sunday at Irish Field in Milroy.
