GFW Board approves flex plan resolution
FAIRFAX – The Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) School Board approved a resolution Monday that gives the school district authority to offer an HSA (health savings account) medical coverage flex plan option.
The district’s former flex plan did not allow an HSA option, according to Superintendent Tami Martin.
In her report, Martin said the fiscal year 2013 Discipline Incident Reporting System (DIRS) was confirmed by all three school buildings. Final certification with the Minnesota Department of Education was submitted July 15.
Martin said the FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) was recently amended, allowing case workers to access student educational records without parental consent when they are given authority to be legally responsible for the child.
The board approved:
PACT (Parents And Children Together) membership for the 2013-14 school year, at Martin’s recommendation. She said the $1,035 fee will allow the district to access $3,000 in early childhood scholarships for students.
Resignations of middle school physical education/special education teacher Sam Wakefield, who accepted a metro area position; and bus drivers Clifford Van Tries, for medical reasons; and Michael Rider, who will continue his education in Alexandria.
A $33,600 BA step 3 contract with middle school art teacher Catherine Wellman. She has teaching experience in Oshkosh, WI and replaces a teacher who took a job in Little Falls.
