Nicollet County rejects wheelage tax
ST. PETER – By a 3-2 vote Wednesday, Nicollet County commissioners rejected a wheelage tax that would have generated about $260,000 of additional revenue for the county in 2014 and each year thereafter.
Commissioners David Haack, Marie Dranttel, and Bruce Beatty voted against the resolution that would have implemented an additional $10 fee on each motor vehicle in Nicollet County. The board has not yet considered an optional one-half percent sales tax that can be implemented for road improvements.
In other action, the commissioners unanimously approved a conditional use permit for New Sweden Dairy to leave two of four manure storage basins uncovered for two years to monitor effectiveness of separation equipment and sand content within the basins.
