National Night Out Rally tonight at fairgrounds

NEW ULM – The local celebration of the National Night Out Rally takes place today at the Brown County Fairgrounds in New Ulm.

Starting at 5 p.m., the event will include a variety of activities for adults and children. In the Kids Area, there will be a moon bounce, a National Guard obstacle course, a dunk tank and displays of emergency vehicles.

A display by the Color Guard and the general welcome start at 5:30 p.m. Kitchen flashover demonstrations by the New Ulm Fire Department are planned for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A distracted driver/texting demonstration will be held by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety at 7 p.m.

Bob Eveslage and Company will perform music of the ’50s and ’60s from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A BBQ Pork Dinner prepared by Brothers Boneless Grill will sold for $8. Several other food stands, including Culver’s Frozen Custard Stand, will be available.

There will be information tables, drawings and opportunities to meet local police officers, fire fighters and Emergency Medical Service techs.

The national event seeks to raise awareness about police programs in the community dealing with topics like drug prevention, neighborhood watch and other anti-crime efforts.

National Night Out runs 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will be moved into the Fairgrounds Building if bad weather occurs.
