Eagle Update: New superintendent will seek input
It is my privilege and honor to be working for the students, parents and community members of District 88. There are many people to thank for the kind words and thoughts since I have been hired as the new Superintendent. I appreciate the help with the transition that Harold Remme provided as we met and talked about school business.
I grew up in Henderson, MN, and went to Mankato State University, earning a bachelor of science in education. My background includes teaching industrial arts and coaching several sports in Northwood, Iowa. We moved to New Ulm in 1992 where I worked for the Minnesota National Guard as a full-time training officer. In 1994, I accepted a job as the industrial arts teacher at GFW High School. Over time, I became the Dean of Students, then High School Principal and finally Elementary Principal and Superintendent at GFW.
In the weeks and months ahead I plan on visiting with community members to hear where they feel New Ulm Schools should be headed. It is important for me to understand the community better and the input will also help the school board plan their strategic path. The school board is also asking for community input. There are many challenges for District 88 in the years ahead. We must maintain quality staff and programs for our students. Our buildings need constant maintenance and updating so they are safe and provide for an optimal learning environment. We need to continue to work with our area schools on joint opportunities for all students. The continued support of our communities will go a long way in moving District 88 forward and meeting the needs of our students. The best ways to be informed about school business and school programs are to talk with school officials, participate in local groups involved with the school, volunteer in the schools or attend board meetings.
I encourage anyone to call or email me with questions, concerns or ideas about District 88. My email is: email@example.com and my phone number is 359-8414.
