Missing level 3 sex offender found, apprehended at Fort Ridgely
FAIRFAX- A missing level 3 predatory sex offender was found and detained Tuesday at Fort Ridgely State Park in Nicollet County after he was added to the Minnesota Department of Corrections wanted list on July 21.
The warrant for Rommel Heinrich Fritz, 52, was issued after he failed to check in with his supervising corrections agent. He was found in a remote campsite at the park without incident at 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, due to a tip from the public, according to a press release from Nicollet County.
Fritz has been on release from prison since June 2012. He had served more than half of his 20-year prison sentence for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl he did not know and for sexually assaulting another, younger victim he did not know in Pine County.
He has been living near Sandstone, off Highway 23, at a location 65 miles south of Duluth.
The DOC release states a hearing will be held in the next 10 days to determine if he will be allowed to remain in the community under Intensive Supervised Release, or if he will be returned to prison. He has served 12 years and seven months of his 20-year sentence. He is required to remain on conditional supervised release for the rest of his life.
