German, Austrian bands in New Ulm this weekend

NEW ULM – Two European Bands will be in New Ulm this weekend, as part of the Vintage Band Festival in Northfield.

The festival offers 30 bands, holding 100 concerts in four days, Aug. 1-4. Most of the activity is in Northfield, but the bands also spread out and perform in other parts of Minnesota.

Tonight, the B&L?Bar in New Ulm will host a performance by the Original Drachenfesler Musikanten, from Germany, at 7 p.m. The quartet specializes in traditional and modern brass band music. It features a tenor horn, trumpet, tuba, and accordion.

On Sunday, the Schell’s Brewery Biergarten will host a performance by the Austrian group, Eine Kleine Dorfmusic Kapelle, starting at 3 p.m.

The seven-member Austrian group also features traditional and contemporary brass band music.

The Vintage Band Festival is a four-day celebration featuring bands from across the US and abroad. Over 100 concerts fill the streets of Northfield and satellite concerts sites throughout Minnesota on August 1-4.
