SLEEPY EYE – A. Gene Poirier, 74 of Sleepy Eye died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2013 at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
A private graveside memorial service for family and friends will be held at Home Cemetery, Soldier’s Rest Section, in Sleepy Eye at a later date.
The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.

Gene is survived by his wife, Janet Poirier of Sleepy Eye; brothers, George (Leona) Poirier of Alexandria, Curtis (Gail) Poirier of Palm Harbor, Fla.; sisters-in-law, June (Omer) Kellevig; and by nieces and nephews, Mark Poirier, Steve Poirier, Beth Boesch, Pam Larson, Shelly Anvary, Kim Muzel, Donita Bryant, Jody Lester, Steve Kallevig and Tom Kellevig.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Alvin Eugene Poirier was born June 18, 1939 in Montevideo to Raymond and Faye (Taggert) Poirier. He was a 1958 graduate of Sleepy Eye High School. Gene served in the US Army from 1958 to 1961. He was united in marriage to Janet Paulson on May 5, 1962 in Evan. After marriage they owned and operated the Pix Theater, Poirier Trenching, Janet’s Gift and Jewelry and the Style Shop Emporium, all in Sleepy Eye.
Gene enjoyed reading, animals and watching the Minnesota Vikings.
