Eugene “Gene” Groebner
SEARLES – Eugene “Gene” Groebner, 92, of Searles, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-10 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Gene is survived by his wife, Donna Groebner of Searles; daughters, Nancy Braun and her special friend Jerry of Sleepy Eye, Joan Anderson of New Ulm, Kelly Sandmann and her special friend Butch of New Ulm; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and by his sisters, Harriet Reinhart of New Ulm and Kathleen “Tootie” Smith of White Bear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his sisters, Helen Waibel, Rosella “Sally” Holm and Gladys Davis.
Eugene Albert Groebner was born April 27, 1921 in New Ulm to Rudolph and Ella (Fischer) Groebner. He was united in marriage to Donna Helget on June 9, 1948 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles. After marriage they farmed near Searles his entire working life until retiring in 1993. Gene enjoyed dancing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the St. John’s Catholic United.
