NEW ULM – The free Christian music concert at the Brown County Free Fair will go on as planned tonight at the Grandstand.
But instead of Jason Gray, Christian recording artist Jimmy Needham will be taking the stage.
Grace Community Church in New Ulm had decided to sponsor the concert this year, and the Brown County Fair had an open spot in the Grandstand schedule. But last week, the church heard that Gray, who has been touring, was having trouble with his voice, due to stress-induced laryngitis.
Pastor Phil Schenck said the word came that Gray’s voice was not improving, and that he would have to cancel. The church worked with Gray’s management to find a replacement, and Jimmy Needham agreed to fill in.
Needham was performing at a private event in Lake Geneva, Wis., on Wednesday, and was able to make it to New Ulm today.
Schenck said Needham, who is based in Texas, is very similar to Gray in musical style and message. The two are friends who have toured and sung together, he said.
The show will go on as planned at 7 p.m. in front of the Brown County Fair Grandstand. Admission is free.
